Odisha Assembly Session Disrupted Over MMDR Act

Bhubaneswar: The third day of the Monsoon Session of the Odisha Assembly witnessed high drama as opposition parties staged a fierce protest over the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act (MMDR Act).

In a rare show of unity, members of the BJD and Congress stormed into the Well of the House, raising slogans and surrounding the Deputy Speaker’s podium.

The situation escalated when Congress leader Tara Prasad Bahinipati hurled a banner toward the podium, intensifying the uproar.

Despite repeated appeals for order, the chaos continued, forcing Deputy Speaker Bhabani Shankar Bhoi to adjourn the House until 4 PM.

Political observers note that this unusual alliance between BJD and Congress could set the tone for a stormy session ahead, with legislative business likely to face further hurdles.
