Debrigarh Tiger Reserve to Welcome Two New Tigers from Similipal

Odisha’s Debrigarh Tiger Reserve is set to receive a major boost in its conservation efforts with the arrival of two new tigers from Similipal.

Forest and Environment Minister Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia announced that the relocation is being coordinated with the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA).

The minister emphasised that community cooperation is vital for the success of this initiative.

Discussions with local villagers are already underway to ensure the safety of the tigers and to create a supportive environment for breeding.

Previously, tigresses Yamuna and Jinat were relocated from Similipal to Debrigarh, but breeding has not yet occurred.

Authorities continue to monitor the existing population using GPS collars and camera traps.

With the addition of the new tigers, officials expect a positive impact on population growth and renewed momentum in conservation activities at the reserve.

This move underscores Odisha’s commitment to strengthening tiger conservation and biodiversity protection in the region.
