Cuttack Court Acquits Abdur Rehman in AQIS Case
The Cuttack District Court has acquitted Abdur Rehman, who was arrested in 2016 on suspicion of links with Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS).
Rehman was taken into custody from Paschimkachhar under Salepur police limits after authorities alleged he had connections with AQIS operatives and posed a threat to national security.
During the trial, prosecutors failed to establish credible evidence against him.
The court observed that the case lacked substantiation and ordered his release.
Rehman’s arrest had drawn widespread attention as part of a suspected larger terror network.
His acquittal now raises questions about the investigation process and the prolonged detention he faced.
