Bhubaneswar Erupts as Teachers Demand Fair Pay and Job Security
Bhubaneswar, Dec 5: Thousands of primary teachers staged a massive rally on Mahatma Gandhi Marg, intensifying their long‑standing demands for fair pay and job security.
The demonstration, marked by slogans and placards, highlighted two critical issues:
- Salary Upgrade: Teachers pressed for an immediate revision of the basic post salary to Rs35,400, arguing that the current pay scale undervalues their contribution to Odisha’s education system.
- Abolition of Contract System: Protesters demanded that contractual service periods be recognised as regular employment, along with the provision of notional increments to ensure fairness and stability.
Reports confirm that more than 1.5 lakh primary teachers across Odisha have raised these demands for years. The rally in the capital city once again brought their concerns to the forefront.
Demonstrators vowed to continue their struggle until the government responds, creating a powerful scene of solidarity and determination.
