Odisha Vigilance Arrests Executive Engineer Arabinda Mohanty in Disproportionate Assets Case

Odisha Vigilance on Monday arrested Arabinda Mohanty, Executive Engineer of the R&B Sub-Division at Betanati in Mayurbhanj district, on allegations of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The arrest followed simultaneous searches at multiple properties linked to the engineer.

According to Vigilance officials, the searches led to the detection of substantial movable and immovable assets allegedly owned by Arabinda Mohanty.

Investigators stated that he could not satisfactorily account for the wealth and assets discovered during the raids.

The assets identified during the investigation reportedly include two multi-storeyed buildings, a five-acre farmhouse, and 23 land plots located in different areas.

Officials also recovered around 300 grams of gold jewellery and cash amounting to ₹10.57 lakh. Of this, ₹2.5 lakh was reportedly found at his residence in Balianta on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.

In addition, investigators detected bank and other deposits worth ₹69.69 lakh and a four-wheeler vehicle linked to the accused officer.

Following the findings, Odisha Vigilance registered a case against Arabinda Mohanty at the Baleshwar Vigilance Police Station under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.

Vigilance officials said further investigation is underway to scrutinise financial transactions, assess the value of the assets, and examine whether any associates or front entities were involved in the accumulation of the alleged disproportionate wealth.

The case marks another significant action by Odisha Vigilance in its continuing drive against corruption and the possession of assets beyond known sources of income by public servants.
