Asish Mohanty Takes Charge as Odisha’s New Tax Investigation Director

Bhubaneswar, May 2026: Senior IRS officer Asish Chandra Mohanty has officially taken charge as Director of the Income Tax Department’s Investigation and Criminal Intelligence Directorate in Bhubaneswar.

A 2005 batch officer, Mohanty brings over two decades of experience in tax administration and financial crime investigation.

Previously serving as Commissioner of Income Tax (Appeals, Unit 1) in Cuttack, Mohanty has also held key roles in the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), including the Tax Policy Division and Directorate of Investigation in New Delhi.

His appointment comes at a time when the CBDT is intensifying nationwide awareness campaigns against tax evasion and strengthening collaboration with financial reporting agencies to secure confidential data.

Officials believe Mohanty’s leadership will energise Odisha’s tax administration, improve transparency, and reinforce accountability.

His expertise in tackling tax fraud is expected to bolster compliance and safeguard financial integrity across the region.
