16‑Foot Crocodile Captured in Rajnagar After Two Years of Terror

Rajnagar, Odisha: After nearly two years of fear and failed attempts, forest officials successfully captured a massive 16‑foot‑4‑inch saltwater crocodile that had terrorised residents near Jarimula market in Kendrapara’s Rajnagar.

The reptile first entered a private pond, killing a woman, and was later released into Bhitarkanika National Park.

However, it repeatedly returned to the canal near the busy market, sparking panic among locals.

On Sunday, a team of eight forest staff led by Kanika Range officer Yashobant Behera, Rajnagar Ranger Bijay Kumar Patra, and Forest Guard Trideep Pradhan carried out a tense operation.

Nets were used to block escape routes, but the crocodile broke free before being subdued near a swamp.

Officials confirmed the crocodile will be relocated to a safer habitat away from human settlements.

The successful rescue has brought relief to residents who had lived in fear for years.

Authorities urged locals to remain vigilant and report unusual wildlife sightings promptly.
