West Bengal Cabinet Clears Extra Funds for Eggs in Anganwadi Meals

The West Bengal cabinet has approved additional funds to strengthen nutrition at Anganwadi centres.

Each meal served to women and children will now include an extra -2 allocation for eggs, ensuring better dietary support.

Alongside this nutrition boost, the cabinet also cleared the Mukhyamantri Swasthya Bima Yojana to extend health insurance coverage to residents excluded from Ayushman Bharat.

Security and infrastructure measures were also sanctioned, including land transfers for BSF outposts and fencing along the India–Bangladesh border, approval for an NIA station, and construction of a steel bridge over the Panga river in Jalpaiguri.

The cabinet further passed the West Bengal Panchayat Bill–2026, marking reforms in local governance.

This decision comes amid ongoing debates over serving eggs in school mid‑day meals, positioning the move as a significant step toward improving nutrition for vulnerable groups.
