VSSUT Drops Mandatory Uniform After Student Protests

Burla, Odisha: Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) has officially withdrawn its mandatory uniform policy for undergraduate students following sustained protests.

The Academic Council, chaired by Vice‑Chancellor Prof. Dipak Kumar Sahoo, approved the decision after second‑year students raised concerns about the prescribed attire and long‑pending hostel issues.

The uniform, introduced in August 2025 to promote equality and safety, required students to wear a blue, full‑sleeve polyester outfit.

Students argued it was unsuitable for Sambalpur’s humid climate and impractical for labs and fieldwork.

With the new decision, uniforms are now optional.

However, students must adhere to a formal dress code and maintain discipline.

The move reflects the university’s willingness to balance institutional standards with student welfare.
