Tusker Confined in Truck for 60 Hours, Odisha Forest Dept Faces Heat
Bhubaneswar: A tusker tranquillised in Narahanata, Angul, has been confined inside a truck for more than 60 hours during relocation, sparking serious health concerns.
Initially planned for release in Satkosia’s Karanjia range, the move was stalled due to local opposition.
The Forest Department has since transported the elephant across multiple districts — Kendujhar, Anandpur, Bhadrak, and Balasore — before directing it towards Bangiriposhi’s Kanachhinda Wildlife Rescue Centre.
Officials say the tusker will be rehabilitated at the centre today.
Wildlife experts have raised alarm over the prolonged confinement, warning of stress and possible health risks.
The incident underscores the challenges of balancing conservation goals, community concerns, and animal welfare in Odisha’s elephant relocation efforts.
