Odisha to Merge BSE & CHSE into Single Board
The Odisha government has announced a major education reform by merging the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) and the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) into a single unified board.
Modeled on the CBSE structure, the new board will conduct both Class 10 and Class 12 examinations under one framework.
Education Secretary N. Thirumala Nayak confirmed that a draft law is being prepared to formalise the merger.
The move, directed by the Chief Minister, aims to streamline exam management, ensure better coordination, and align Odisha’s education system with national standards.
Officials have assured that syllabus preparation and exam administration will not face major hurdles.
Alongside the merger, the government has announced additional measures: free schooling up to 18 years, integration of Class 10 and 12 syllabi in open schools, ₹10 crore allocated to CHSE for digital education, and combined commerce and science streams in Odia.
The reform is expected to bring greater uniformity, efficiency, and accessibility to students across the state.
