Sudarsan Pattnaik’s Sand Art Marks Niladri Bije with Rasagola Tribute

Renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik has created a striking 7‑foot sculpture at Puri Beach to mark Niladri Bije and Rasagola Dibasa.

The artwork portrays Lord Jagannath offering Rasagola to Goddess Lakshmi, symbolising reconciliation and devotion.

Niladri Bije, the concluding ritual of the annual Rath Yatra, commemorates Lord Jagannath’s return to the temple with siblings Balabhadra and Subhadra.

Tradition holds that Goddess Lakshmi, upset at being left behind during the nine‑day journey, initially refuses entry to the Lord.

To appease her, Jagannath offers Rasagolla — a humble sweet that has become a cultural symbol of love and peace.

Pattnaik shared the creation on X, wishing devotees “Happy Rasagola Dibasa.” The sculpture has drawn large crowds of devotees and tourists, reinforcing Odisha’s rich heritage of art, faith, and tradition.
