Srimandir Sevayats Suspended for Misconduct: SJTA Enforces Temple Discipline

Puri, Odisha — In a decisive move to uphold the sanctity of Shree Jagannath Temple, the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has suspended three sevayats for misconduct that disrupted temple discipline and decorum.

Suara Badu Sevayat Narayan Panda and Khuntia Sevayat Rajaram Khuntia were suspended for two months under Section 21(A) of the Shri Jagannath Temple Act, 1955.

The action follows reports of illegal money collection from pilgrims near Bahar Katha and physical altercations among sevayats over the collected funds.

In a separate incident, Mahasuar Sevayat Bena Mahasuar was also suspended for two months for instigating the use of vanaspati ghee inside the temple — a practice strictly prohibited within the sanctum.

SJTA Chief Administrator Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee issued a stern warning, stating that any further attempts by the suspended sevayats to disturb temple order would invite extended suspension and additional disciplinary measures. “No sevayat or individual will be spared if found obstructing rituals or the smooth darshan of devotees,” he emphasised.

The administration reiterated its commitment to preserving the spiritual atmosphere of Srimandir and ensuring a peaceful experience for all pilgrims.
