Odisha Charts Green Path with EV Boats for Tourism
Odisha Tourism Development Corporation (OTDC) has announced plans to introduce electric catamarans across key tourist destinations, marking a significant step toward sustainable tourism.
The initiative aims to replace diesel-powered boats with eco-friendly electric vessels, reducing pollution and enhancing visitor experiences.
In the first phase, EV boats will be deployed at Kolab, Hirakud, Bhitarkanika, and Barkul, strengthening Odisha’s green tourism infrastructure.
OTDC has already issued tenders inviting agencies to bid for operations, with the bidding window open from April 28 to May 19, 2026.
Selected operators will have a one-month setup period under the supervision of the Divisional Manager (HS).
Officials emphasised that the project aligns with Odisha’s broader environmental goals, positioning the state as a leader in eco-conscious travel.
By integrating clean technology into tourism, Odisha hopes to attract environmentally aware visitors while safeguarding its waterways.
