Red Alert in Odisha as Deep Depression Intensifies

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red and yellow alerts across Odisha as a deep depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal intensifies.

Sundargarh, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj districts are under red alert with extremely heavy rainfall expected, while 12 other districts face yellow alerts for heavy to very heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds.

The system is projected to cross the Odisha–West Bengal coast between Paradip and Sagar Island around noon on Monday.

Meteorologists warn of flash floods in 27 districts, with rainfall likely to continue until July 29.

Precautionary measures include closure of schools and Anganwadi centres in Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, and Mayurbhanj.

District collectors have been instructed to remain on high alert, with emergency teams on standby to tackle waterlogging and transport disruptions.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea until July 29 due to rough conditions, while coastal residents are urged to exercise caution against strong winds and high waves.
