Record Paddy Registration in Odisha: Government Rules Out Deadline Extension
Bhubaneswar: Odisha has witnessed a record 21.42 lakh farmers registering for paddy procurement in the ongoing Kharif season, surpassing last year’s figure of 19.67 lakh.
The registration process, which had already been extended by seven days, will now close permanently at 1 a.m. Monday night, with no further extension.
Cooperation Minister Pradeep Bal Samanta emphasised that the government is committed to safeguarding farmers’ interests and dismissed opposition threats of agitation over the registration issue.
He reiterated that the deadline was final and urged farmers to adhere to the schedule.
Meanwhile, the state has ensured adequate supply of fertilisers, with 24,400 tonnes currently in stock.
Authorities have warned of strict action against negligent dealers, including suspension or cancellation of licences, to prevent disruption in distribution.
This record participation highlights growing farmer confidence in the procurement system and the government’s push for timely registration and resource management.
