Rayagada Collector Bars Late Officials from Grievance Hearing, Reinforces Accountability
Rayagada District Collector Asutosh Kulkarni set a stern precedent for punctuality by barring late‑arriving officials from the first grievance hearing of 2026.
The session, held at the District Parishad Conference Hall, began promptly at 10 AM.
While the Collector was present on time, several senior officials—including the Sub‑Collector, Excise Superintendent, Panchayat Officer, Welfare Officer, and others—failed to arrive punctually.
Security staff, acting on the Collector’s instructions, denied entry to latecomers, forcing them to wait outside in the Innovation Cell adjacent to the hall.
The hearing continued without their participation, creating a sense of unease among the administrative ranks.
Many complainants welcomed the move, viewing it as a step toward accountability and discipline in governance.
The Collector’s decision also aligned with the BJP‑led state government’s directive to take strict action against officials neglecting grievance hearings.
The incident underscored the administration’s resolve to prioritise public complaints and enforce discipline in grievance redressal mechanisms, sending a clear message that tardiness will not be tolerated in matters of public service.
