Puri Police Intensify Crackdown on Crime, 278 Arrested in Five Months

Puri: In a determined effort to maintain law and order in the holy city, Puri Police have arrested 278 anti‑social elements between January and May 2026.

The crackdown targeted narcotics, excise violations, and public disorder, reflecting the administration’s commitment to a crime‑free environment.

According to official reports, 16 cases of Corex syrup trafficking were registered, leading to the arrest of 26 accused and the seizure of 1,233 bottles.

In addition, 13 cases of brown sugar peddling resulted in 28 arrests and the confiscation of 488 grams of the contraband.

Excise Act violations were also addressed, with 54 cases registered and an equal number of arrests.

Police further booked over 1,100 individuals for consuming alcohol in public places across the city.

Senior officers emphasised that these measures are part of a sustained drive to ensure peace and security in Puri.

Authorities assured that strict enforcement will continue in the coming days to safeguard residents and pilgrims alike.
