Odisha’s Fisheries Sector Gets ₹1,301 Cr PMMSY Boost

Odisha’s fisheries sector is set for a major transformation with projects worth Rs 1,301.18 crore sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY).

The flagship initiatives include a Rs 100 crore Integrated Aqua Park in Sambalpur, featuring hatcheries, grow-out ponds, processing units, research labs, and effluent treatment facilities.

Land acquisition and preparatory work have been completed, with core infrastructure under construction.

In Bhubaneswar, a modern wholesale fish market worth Rs 59.13 crore is being developed with 44 wholesale units, 99 retail units, renewable energy systems, and rainwater harvesting.

Land reclamation is complete, and construction is underway.

To support small fishers, the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme has been extended to fisheries since 2018–19.

Odisha offers interest‑free loans up to Rs 1 lakh and concessional loans up to Rs 3 lakh at 2% interest.

Awareness drives are being conducted through fairs and village meetings.

Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh emphasised Centre–State collaboration to build a modern, sustainable fisheries ecosystem, positioning Odisha as a key player in India’s Blue Economy.

The projects aim to boost fish production, strengthen post‑harvest infrastructure, generate employment, and promote resilient coastal communities.
