Malkangiri Airport Trial Run Marks Historic Milestone for Odisha

Malkangiri district witnessed a historic moment as an aircraft successfully completed its trial run at the newly developed airport under the Udan scheme.

Within the next 30 days, daily flights will connect Malkangiri to Bhubaneswar via Jeypore, using 9‑seater aircraft with a short refuelling stop.

The current 1,600‑metre runway is set to be expanded to 3,000 metres, paving the way for larger aircraft and future connectivity to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Senior officials including Assistant Directors Manoj Kumar Das and Neeraj Kumaran Nayak, ADM Bedabar Pradhan, and SP Vinod Patil were present during the trial run.

This development is expected to transform Malkangiri’s access to education, healthcare, and business opportunities, positioning the district as a new growth hub in Odisha’s regional progress.
