Odisha Govt Fast‑Tracks Disability Assessments for UDID Cards
The Odisha Department of Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SS&EPD) has directed all districts to expedite disability assessments to ensure timely issuance of Unique Disability ID (UDID) cards.
The move follows concerns raised by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) regarding delays in assessment and re‑verification, particularly affecting government employees with disabilities.
According to official data, out of 13,32,415 applications registered, 9,73,344 cards have been generated, 3,14,721 applications rejected, and 44,350 cases remain pending.
To address the backlog, districts have been instructed to conduct regular Medical Board meetings, deploy adequate specialists, and prioritise pending cases.
Officials must also submit Action Taken Reports detailing measures implemented.
The initiative aims to enhance transparency, efficiency, and accessibility, ensuring that genuine Persons with Disabilities do not face unnecessary inconvenience.
