CM Majhi Inaugurates Global Workshop on Human-Elephant Co-existence in Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar, August 21(OT Webdesk): Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated an international workshop on “Best Practices in Human-Elephant Co-existence” at Mayfair Bhubaneswar today, marking a pivotal moment in the state’s conservation efforts.
The event, organised by the Forest & Environment Department in collaboration with global NGOs, brought together leading conservationists, forest officials, researchers, and policy experts from India and abroad.
Delegates from Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Kenya shared successful models and insights into mitigating human-elephant conflict.
In his keynote address, CM Majhi emphasized the importance of collaborative strategies involving government agencies, local communities, and international experts. “Odisha is home to a significant elephant population, and it is our responsibility to protect both human lives and animal habitats through informed, inclusive strategies,” he said.
The workshop featured sessions on habitat conservation, early warning systems, community engagement, and technological interventions—aimed at fostering peaceful cohabitation between humans and elephants.
This initiative underscores Odisha’s commitment to ecological balance and wildlife safety, positioning the state as a proactive player in global conservation dialogue.
