Odisha Weather Update: IMD Warns of Squally Winds as Low-Pressure Area Shifts Over Bay of Bengal

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that the low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal has moved towards the northwest–west-central region, close to the south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coasts.

The system, extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level, is tilting southwestwards with height, indicating potential intensification.

According to IMD, squally winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, are expected over the North and Central Bay of Bengal during the next 48 hours.

Similar conditions are likely along the coastal belts of Bangladesh, West Bengal, Odisha, and north Andhra Pradesh.

Sea conditions are forecast to remain rough to very rough, prompting IMD to issue an advisory for fishermen.

They have been strictly warned against venturing into the North and Central Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas for the next two days.
