Odisha on High Alert as Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘Arnab’ Intensifies; SRC Urges Public Not to Panic

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has intensified preparedness measures as Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘Arnab’ moves closer to the state’s coast. Authorities have urged residents to remain calm and rely only on official advisories for updates regarding the evolving weather situation.

According to the latest information, the cyclone is currently located approximately 580 km from Gopalpur and is moving westward at a speed of around 15 km per hour.

Winds associated with the storm are estimated at 65-75 kmph, gusting up to 85 kmph.

The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), Rajesh Prabhakar Patil, assured citizens that district administrations, disaster response agencies, and emergency services are fully prepared to handle any eventuality arising from the cyclone.

Officials are closely monitoring the storm’s trajectory and intensity while coordinating response measures across vulnerable coastal districts.

Meteorological forecasts indicate that the system is likely to strengthen further into a Severe Cyclonic Storm and may intensify into a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm in the coming days.

Authorities have therefore heightened surveillance and preparedness activities in potentially affected regions.

The state administration has reviewed the readiness of cyclone shelters, evacuation plans, emergency response teams, and relief arrangements.

Disaster management agencies remain on standby to respond swiftly if weather conditions deteriorate.

The SRC has appealed to residents to avoid spreading rumours and to follow updates issued by official government and weather agencies.

Citizens living in low-lying and vulnerable areas have been advised to stay alert and cooperate with local authorities should precautionary measures become necessary.

With the cyclone continuing to intensify over the sea, Odisha remains on alert as authorities work to minimise risks and ensure public safety.
