Cyclonic Storm Arnab Intensifies Over Bay of Bengal, Andhra Coast Braces for Major Impact

Bhubaneswar/Visakhapatnam: The Cyclonic Storm ‘Arnab’ has formed over the Bay of Bengal and is expected to intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm before making landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast later this week, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The storm, currently located over the east-central and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal, has been moving westward and is forecast to strengthen rapidly over the next 48 hours.

The IMD has issued a Red Message warning for Andhra Pradesh and adjoining south Odisha coastal districts as authorities prepare for possible severe weather conditions.

Meteorologists predict that Arnab will intensify into a Severe Cyclonic Storm before further strengthening into a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm on October 27.

The system is expected to move northwestward and cross the Andhra Pradesh and Yanam coast between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam during the forenoon of October 28.

At the time of landfall, wind speeds are likely to range between 115 and 125 kmph, with gusts reaching up to 140 kmph.

Authorities have initiated precautionary measures across vulnerable coastal regions.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea, while disaster response teams and local administrations have been placed on high alert.

Residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas have been asked to follow official advisories and remain prepared for possible evacuations if required.

Heavy rainfall, strong winds, and rough sea conditions are expected to affect coastal Andhra Pradesh, with adjoining districts of south Odisha also likely to experience adverse weather conditions as the cyclone approaches.

The IMD continues to closely monitor the cyclone’s movement and intensity, urging citizens to stay updated through official weather bulletins and emergency notifications.
