Odisha Tightens Security in Kotia Border Villages Ahead of Andhra Panchayat Elections

Koraput: Security has been significantly strengthened in the disputed Kotia border region of Odisha’s Koraput district as authorities prepare to maintain law and order ahead of the upcoming Andhra Pradesh Panchayat elections.

According to reports, police have intensified surveillance and deployed additional personnel across several sensitive villages located in the border area.

The heightened security measures include the establishment of checkpoints and temporary police camps in villages such as Neradivalsa, Tadivalsa, Aruzubalsa, Upar Sambi, Fagunsuneri, and Fatusuneri.

Officials are closely monitoring movements in these areas to prevent any untoward incidents and ensure peace during the election period.

The move comes amid increased political activity by Andhra Pradesh-based parties ahead of local body elections.

Reports indicate that leaders and workers of major parties, including the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and YSR Congress Party, have stepped up campaigning efforts in the disputed villages, drawing attention to the long-standing boundary issue between Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.

Kotia has remained a sensitive region due to competing territorial claims by both states.

Election-related activities in the area have often sparked concerns over administrative control and voter influence, prompting Odisha authorities to remain vigilant.

Police officials have reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order, preventing unauthorised activities, and safeguarding the interests of residents in the border villages.

The administration has assured that adequate security arrangements are in place to ensure a peaceful environment during the election season.

With tensions simmering over the border dispute, the enhanced deployment reflects Odisha’s efforts to preserve stability and prevent any disruption in the strategically sensitive Kotia region.
