Odisha Gears Up for Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 Drive
Odisha will join the nationwide Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2026 campaign from September 17 to October 2, reinforcing its commitment to cleanliness, sanitation, and sustainable living.
The initiative, coordinated by the Housing & Urban Development Department, was discussed with the Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs and attended by Odisha’s H&UD Minister, Dr Krushna Chandra Mahapatra.
All Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) have been directed to ensure broad citizen participation.
Key highlights include the lighting of one crore lamps, sanitation drives across rural and urban areas, and documentation of progress through videos.
The campaign theme “Swachhata Mein Sahbhag, Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat” emphasises five pillars:
- Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) and garbage‑vulnerable points.
- Youth engagement through Swachhata Gyan Yatras and Samvads.
- SafaiMitra Suraksha Shivirs for sanitation worker welfare.
- Citizen participation via zero‑waste sports and eco‑friendly celebrations.
- Circular economy practices under Swachhata Se Samriddhi.
A major highlight will be the “Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath” Shramdaan drive on October 1, encouraging collective action.
The campaign will culminate on October 2 (Swachh Bharat Diwas) with ULB council reviews.
Officials stressed that cleanliness is a shared responsibility, requiring sustained citizen involvement to build a healthier, inclusive, and sustainable Odisha.
