Odisha CM Orders Probe After Rescue of Five Baby Orangutans
Bhubaneswar: In a startling incident, five baby orangutans were rescued in Baleshwar district, raising serious concerns about illegal wildlife trafficking in Odisha.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed deep alarm over the discovery and directed a high‑level investigation into how the exotic animals entered the state.
He warned that Odisha must not be allowed to become a transit hub for wildlife smuggling.
The probe will focus on identifying smuggling routes, methods of entry, and the individuals or syndicates involved.
Authorities are also tasked with determining the intended destination of the animals.
The state government will coordinate closely with the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) and central enforcement agencies to dismantle trafficking networks.
Meanwhile, the rescued orangutans are receiving immediate medical care and round‑the‑clock protection under wildlife protocols.
This incident underscores the growing threat of exotic animal trafficking in India and highlights Odisha’s resolve to strengthen enforcement against such crimes.
