Odisha Activates Statewide Cyclone Preparedness Plan; Malkangiri on High Alert

Bhubaneswar: With a cyclonic system threatening parts of eastern India, the Odisha government has rolled out an extensive micro-plan covering all 30 districts to ensure preparedness and minimise potential damage.

Suresh Pujari, Odisha’s Revenue and Disaster Management Minister, said the administration is closely monitoring the evolving weather situation and has directed district authorities to remain on alert.

According to the government’s preparedness strategy, all districts are expected to receive rainfall, with some areas likely to witness heavy precipitation.

Authorities have identified Malkangiri as a particularly vulnerable district and have intensified monitoring and response measures in the region.

To ensure swift action in case of emergencies, senior officials and ministers have been deployed to vulnerable districts.

Round-the-clock control rooms have also been activated from the district level to the state headquarters, enabling real-time coordination and rapid response.

The state government is additionally keeping a close watch on possible flood situations arising from heavy rainfall in neighbouring Chhattisgarh.

Rising water levels in the Mahanadi River basin remain a concern, prompting Odisha authorities to coordinate with their counterparts in Chhattisgarh regarding water management and flood mitigation efforts.

Officials have urged residents, especially those in vulnerable and low-lying areas, to stay alert, follow weather advisories, and cooperate with local administration.

Disaster response teams and emergency services remain on standby as Odisha prepares to tackle any impact from the approaching cyclone.
