Odisha Braces for Heavy Rain Till September 12 Under Low Pressure Impact
Bhubaneswar: Odisha is set to experience a prolonged spell of heavy rainfall as a cyclonic circulation over the North Andaman Sea intensifies into a low‑pressure system over the Bay of Bengal.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the system is expected to impact the Andhra Pradesh–Odisha coast by September 11, triggering widespread showers across the state.
On September 9, districts including Balasore, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj are likely to receive heavy rainfall.
The intensity will increase on September 10, with Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj placed under an Orange Warning for heavy to very heavy rain.
By September 11, Koraput and adjoining southern districts are forecasted to witness significant downpours, while September 12 will bring heavy rain to Koraput, Malkangiri, and parts of western Odisha.
Authorities have issued alerts for multiple districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Angul, Dhenkanal, Rayagada, Koraput, Gajapati, Ganjam, and Puri.
The IMD has advised residents to remain cautious of possible waterlogging, landslides, and disruptions in transport.
This four‑day rain spell is expected to affect both coastal and interior regions, marking one of the season’s most significant weather events.
