Odisha Welcomes Maha Bisuba Sankranti with Pana Rituals and Festive Spirit
Bhubaneswar, April 14: Odisha today celebrated Maha Bisuba Sankranti, popularly known as Pana Sankranti, marking the beginning of the Odia New Year.
The day was observed with traditional rituals, cultural festivities, and religious gatherings across the state.
Families prepared and offered Pana — a sweet, cooling drink — at the Tulasi Chaura (holy basil altar), symbolising devotion and prosperity.
The festival also coincided with the release of the new Odia Panji (almanack), signifying the start of a fresh calendar year.
Alongside Sankranti, Hanuman Jayanti was celebrated with grandeur in cities like Cuttack and Sambalpur, where large processions and devotional events were held under tight security arrangements.
Temples and households across Odisha witnessed vibrant participation, reinforcing the cultural and spiritual essence of the occasion.
The celebrations highlighted Odisha’s rich traditions, blending religious devotion, cultural pride, and community bonding as people welcomed the new year with hope and joy.
