Odisha Government Announces Summer Relief: No Power Disconnections for Unpaid Bills
Bhubaneswar, April 13: In a major relief for households battling the scorching summer heat, Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo has announced that domestic electricity connections will not be disconnected for unpaid bills until the arrival of the monsoon.
The directive, issued to all four distribution companies — TPNODL, TPWODL, TPCODL, and TPSODL — ensures uninterrupted power supply during peak demand for fans, coolers, and air conditioners.
The government clarified that unscheduled disconnections linked to bill payments are strictly prohibited, with interruptions allowed only for essential repair and maintenance, and that too with prior public notice.
A compliance mechanism will be monitored by the Additional Chief Secretary, Energy, with regular reports submitted to the Deputy CM.
The government emphasised that this is a temporary welfare measure, urging consumers to clear dues once the monsoon sets in.
This initiative is expected to benefit millions of households across Odisha, ensuring a continuous electricity supply during the hottest months of 2026.
