Odisha Water Resources Department Suspends Leave, Sets 24×7 Flood Control Rooms

The Odisha Water Resources Department has suspended employee leave during the monsoon and flood season to ensure immediate emergency response.

In a pre‑flood review meeting chaired by the Principal Secretary, officials emphasised embankment safety, reservoir operations, and disaster readiness.

Round‑the‑clock flood control rooms will operate until October 31 across divisions, circles, Chief Engineer offices, and Rajiv Bhavan.

Officers have been directed to remain available at all times and coordinate closely with district administrations, police, revenue officials, Panchayati Raj representatives, and disaster management authorities.

Updated contact lists of key officers, public representatives, and equipment suppliers are being maintained for rapid mobilisation.

Field officers will monitor breach‑prone embankment sites identified in the past three years and strictly follow Standard Operating Procedures for reservoir gate operations.

These measures aim to strengthen Odisha’s flood preparedness, safeguard communities, and reinforce the department’s commitment to effective disaster response.
