Odisha Surges to 7th in Rooftop Solar Adoption
Odisha has made a remarkable leap in India’s rooftop solar adoption, rising from 13th to 7th place under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.
The state has now surpassed 1.74 lakh rooftop solar installations, with over 3.12 lakh applications received, reflecting a surge in demand for clean energy solutions.
Government subsidies, Tata Power–led discom facilitation, and grassroots campaigns have accelerated adoption.
Applications have grown nearly 60%, installations by 130%, and conversion rates improved from 37.1% to 53.4%, showing streamlined processes and stronger consumer confidence.
Eligible households can access combined Central and State subsidies of up to Rs 1.38 lakh for a 3 kWp system.
Odisha aims to reach 3 lakh installations by 2027, with discoms (TPCODL, TPWODL, TPNODL, TPSODL) playing pivotal roles.
Community engagement programs like Mo Chhata, Mo Sanchaya, Surya Ghar Gram Sabhas, Solar Rath outreach, and the Solar Didi initiative have boosted awareness.
Districts such as Baleshwar, Ganjam, Khordha, and Cuttack have each crossed 10,000 installations, together contributing ~143 MWp capacity.
Odisha’s rise highlights how strong policy, consumer economics, and utility‑led execution can accelerate renewable energy adoption at scale.
