Malkangiri Revenue Inspector Caught Taking Bribe
Odisha Vigilance officials on Tuesday apprehended Suraj Bala, Revenue Inspector of Jharapali Circle under Malkangiri Tahasil, while accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000.
The bribe was allegedly demanded to process a Scheduled Caste certificate for the complainant’s spouse, despite the application already being submitted online with the official fee paid.
According to Vigilance sources, Bala had sought a total of Rs 10,000, with Rs 8,000 upfront and Rs 2,000 after completion of the work.
Acting on the complaint, officials laid a trap and recovered the tainted money from Bala’s office chamber.
Searches are underway at Bala’s two properties to investigate disproportionate assets.
A case has been registered under Koraput Vigilance P.S. Case No. 19/2026, U/s 7 PC (Amendment) Act, 2018.
Notably, Bala had earlier been caught in 2023 in another trap case involving a Rs 15,000 bribe, which is still pending trial.
