Odisha Rainfall Eases, Flood Situation Gradually Improving
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has confirmed that Odisha will not face heavy rainfall warnings until August 22, offering relief to flood‑hit districts.
While isolated showers may continue in northern and interior regions, fresh alerts are expected for northeast Odisha from August 23.
Recent rainfall data shows Bahalda in Mayurbhanj recorded 273 mm, Raighar 180 mm, Jhadabandh 150 mm, and Jamda 124 mm, pushing the state average to 23.3 mm, which is 82% above normal.
Floodwaters have affected nearly 9.4 lakh people across 1,381 villages in 74 blocks, with Jajpur, Bhadrak, Baleshwar, Mayurbhanj, Kendujhar, and Kendrapada districts worst hit.
Chief Engineer Dillip Rout stated that normalcy may return within 3–4 days as river levels recede.
Currently, the Baitarani river is falling, while Salandi, Budhabalanga, and Subarnarekha remain stable.
The Brahmani river is under close watch due to controlled releases from Rengali dam. Relief centres are operational, and ODRAF and NDRF teams are deployed to assist affected communities.
