Odisha Solar Boom: Nearly 11,000 Households Achieve Zero Electricity Bills

Bhubaneswar, April 28: Odisha is witnessing a solar revolution, with nearly 10,885 households in western Odisha reporting zero electricity bills in March 2026 after adopting rooftop solar systems under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.

According to TP Western Odisha Distribution Ltd (TPWODL), over 18,830 consumers have installed rooftop solar panels, with the majority benefiting from the 1‑kW Utility Led Aggregation (ULA) model, which reduces upfront costs and simplifies installation.

Officials confirmed that around 60% of users pay nothing for electricity, while the remaining 40% have cut bills by over 80%. In March alone, 1,428 new households joined the zero‑bill category.

The scheme offers subsidies up to Rs 1.38 lakh for a 3 kW system and Rs 1.10 lakh for a 2 kW system, making solar adoption highly affordable.

Under TPWODL’s ULA model, consumers can start with just Rs 1,875 upfront.

With a 25‑year performance warranty on panels, smart meter integration, and a strong push for clean energy, Odisha’s rooftop solar drive is transforming household economics and advancing sustainability.
