Odisha Shivers as Mercury Plunges Below 10°C in 13 Places; Yellow Warning Issued

Bhubaneswar, Dec 10: Odisha is reeling under a severe cold wave for the fifth consecutive day, with night temperatures dropping sharply across the state.

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, minimum temperatures fell below 10°C in as many as 13 locations in the past 24 hours.

The coldest spots were G. Udayagiri and Semiliguda, which recorded bone‑chilling lows of 5°C. Phulbani followed at 6.5°C, while Jharsuguda dipped to 7°C. Other districts, including Keonjhar, Bhawanipatna, Daringbadi, Angul, Rourkela, Sundargarh, Nabarangpur, and Balangi,r reported temperatures ranging between 7.6°C and 10°C.

Dense fog has compounded the chill in Rourkela, Phulbani, and Bhawanipatna, reducing visibility and disrupting early‑morning routines.

The Met Centre has issued a Yellow Warning for cold wave conditions and fog in several districts until December 12.

Manorama Mohanty, Director of the Regional Meteorological Centre, stated that the intense cold is being driven by dry, north‑westerly winds sweeping into the state.

No major change in weather is expected until December 12, with daytime highs hovering around 28°C and night temperatures likely to remain below 12°C in many areas until December 16.

Residents are advised to take precautions against the biting cold, particularly vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly.
