Odisha Secures 12 Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals, 36 More Approved for Rail Freight Expansion

Odisha has emerged as a major beneficiary of the Gati Shakti Multi‑Modal Cargo Terminal (GCT) initiative, with 12 operational terminals and in‑principle approval for 36 more.

These facilities, spread across Paradeep, Jharsuguda, Jajpur, Kendujhar Road, Brajrajnagar, Kataka, Sundaragada, Sambalpur, and Bondamunda Junction, are designed to boost industrial competitiveness and regional economic growth.

Nationally, 142 GCTs are already functional, handling 146 million tonnes of freight in 2025‑26, supported by nearly Rs 10,000 crore in private investment.

Another 310 terminals have received approval.

Odisha’s upcoming proposal for a terminal at Porjanpur in Keonjhar constituency further strengthens its logistics infrastructure.

Equipped with warehouses, silos, and cold storage, these terminals will handle commodities ranging from coal and steel to fertilisers, automobiles, and agricultural produce.

The initiative is expected to reduce logistics costs, improve wagon turnaround, shift freight from road to rail, generate employment, and promote sustainable transport.
