Odisha Renames Regional Directorate of Education to School Education

The Odisha government has officially renamed the Regional Directorate of Education as the Regional Directorate of School Education.

The change applies to offices in Bhubaneswar, Sambalpur, and Brahmapur under the School & Mass Education Department.

According to the notification issued on July 18, 2026, the designation of Regional Director of Education will now be referred to as Regional Director of School Education.

The government has clarified that this renaming will not affect service matters, including powers, duties, responsibilities, jurisdiction, pay, allowances, or seniority.

All references to the old title in laws, rules, regulations, manuals, service records, and correspondence will now be construed as references to the new title.

The notification, published in the Odisha Gazette, takes immediate effect.

Officials emphasised that the change is purely nomenclatural and intended to align the directorate’s identity more closely with its focus on school education.
