Odisha Pays Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on Shaheed Diwas

Bhubaneswar, Jan 30: Odisha observed Shaheed Diwas on Friday to mark the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, with solemn ceremonies held at the State Assembly premises.

Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, Speaker Surama Padhy, ministers, legislators, and former MLAs joined in paying floral tributes at Gandhi’s statue.

The Odisha Police Band performed the national anthem, while artists rendered Gandhi’s favourite bhajan, Vaishnav Jan To. A ceremonial gun salute, two minutes of silence, and the soulful strains of Ramdhun honoured the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the nation.

Assembly Secretary Satyabrata Raut, I&PR Director Anuj Kumar Das Pattanaik, and other senior officials coordinated the event.

Leaders reaffirmed their commitment to Gandhi’s ideals of truth and non‑violence, pledging to uphold his vision in public life.

The ceremony served as both a tribute to the Father of the Nation and a reminder of the enduring relevance of his philosophy in contemporary society.
