Odisha Launches 44‑Day Mission to End Child Labour in Gram Panchayats
Odisha has rolled out a 44‑day campaign, beginning on Gandhi Jayanti (October 2) and concluding on Children’s Day (November 14), to make every Gram Panchayat child labour-free.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy CM Pravati Parida, and other ministers have issued video appeals urging citizens to join the mission.
The initiative places Gram Panchayats at the centre of action, mobilising schools, School Management Committees, Mission Shakti Self‑Help Groups, frontline workers, and labour officials.
The campaign framework focuses on three pillars:
- School retention & sensitisation – preventing dropouts and reducing risks of child labour.
- Joint enforcement & rescue – coordinated drives, standardised rescue protocols, and rehabilitation measures.
- Grassroots mobilisation – PRI functionaries ensuring community ownership and sustained participation.
By combining prevention, enforcement, and rehabilitation, the state aims to transform collective responsibility into sustained grassroots action, moving closer to a Child Labour Free Odisha.
