Festive Odisha Faces Cyclone Uncertainty in Mid‑October

As Odisha gears up for the festive season, meteorologists are closely monitoring the Bay of Bengal for signs of a developing weather system.

According to forecasts, a cyclonic circulation is likely to form over the North Andaman Sea around October 12, followed by a low‑pressure area on October 13.

By October 15, this system could evolve into a weak depression, though the probability of it strengthening into a cyclone remains uncertain.

Experts caution that while current models (ECMWF, GFS) indicate favourable conditions for development, it is too early to predict the system’s intensity, track, or landfall.

At present, Odisha faces no immediate threat, with early projections suggesting a southern trajectory.

However, risks may rise if the system shifts northward toward the Andhra‑Odisha coast.

Authorities advise citizens and festival organisers to stay alert between October 12–15, with clearer forecasts expected after October 5.
