Odisha Heatwave Intensifies as Jharsuguda Records 44.1°C, IMD Issues Advisory
Bhubaneswar, April 25: Odisha continues to reel under a severe heatwave, with Jharsuguda recording 44.1°C, nearly 3°C above normal, marking one of the hottest days of the season.
Several western districts, including Titilagarh (43°C), Balangir (43.5°C), Nuapada (43°C), Sambalpur, Hirakud, Sundargarh, Sonepur, and Bhawanipatna, crossed the 42°C mark.
Coastal cities like Bhubaneswar (36.6°C) and Cuttack (36.8°C) also experienced hot and humid conditions.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast similar weather until April 28, with a possible 2–4°C drop midweek.
Meanwhile, Kalbaisakhi activity may bring isolated rain and gusty winds to southern Odisha, with Norwester conditions expected until May 1.
Authorities have issued advisories urging residents to stay hydrated, avoid peak‑hour exposure, and follow health guidelines, as 17 places crossed 40°C on Saturday, underscoring the severity of the crisis.
