Odisha Govt Cancels Leave, Deploys 24×7 Flood Control Rooms
The Odisha Housing & Urban Development Department has stepped up emergency measures to tackle severe flooding across northern districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, and Jajpur.
All officers’ leave has been cancelled to ensure full availability, while 24×7 control rooms have been activated for continuous monitoring and coordination.
Urban Local Bodies have been directed to deploy additional manpower, machinery, and pumpsets to clear water from roads and residential areas.
Efforts are underway to unclog drains, culverts, and channels to restore natural water flow and reduce waterlogging.
Relief services such as safe drinking water, cooked and dry food, and lighting are being provided in affected areas, with vulnerable residents relocated to safer zones.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi is overseeing the response, coordinating with the Revenue & Disaster Management Department and district administrations.
Looking ahead, the government has announced plans to prepare a Drainage Master Plan for all Urban Local Bodies, designed to provide scientific and sustainable solutions to recurring urban flooding.
Housing & Urban Development Minister Dr Krushna Chandra Mahapatra emphasised that the government is committed not only to immediate relief but also to long‑term resilience against future flood risks.
