Odisha Water Resources Department Intensifies Flood Preparedness
The Odisha Water Resources Department has heightened flood preparedness measures across vulnerable districts as river levels continue to rise.
Senior engineers from multiple wings—including Minor Irrigation, Mega Lift Irrigation, Quality Assurance, and Survey & Investigation—have been deployed to monitor embankments and river systems in Kataka, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, and Puri.
Superintending and Executive Engineers are maintaining round‑the‑clock surveillance, with additional officers stationed in sensitive areas to ensure rapid response.
In a recent incident, the Chief Engineer of the Mahanadi, Brahmani, and Baitarani Basin System inspected the OAE‑9B overflow near Mahadev Temple in Aali Block, where floodwater was successfully contained using sandbags.
Officials have directed field teams to maintain continuous vigilance and take immediate preventive action wherever necessary.
These intensified measures form part of a broader strategy to safeguard communities and infrastructure as Odisha braces for potential flood impacts.
