Odisha Fishermen Sea Ban 2026: Safety Measures Amid Heavy Rainfall
The Odisha Directorate of Fisheries has imposed a temporary ban on fishing activities in the sea until September 25, 2026, citing the risk of heavy and incessant rainfall.
Fishermen already at sea have been instructed to return immediately, while those onshore are advised to anchor their boats securely at nearby landing centres and harbours.
To ensure compliance, district and marine fishery officers are coordinating with boat owner associations, trawler unions, and fishermen cooperatives.
Loudspeaker announcements are being made across coastal villages, and awareness campaigns are being led by ‘Sagarmitras’ and Assistant Fishery Officers at ports.
The Directorate has also activated 24×7 control rooms in district offices, tasked with sending regular situation reports to headquarters in Cuttack.
In addition, all departmental officers and staff have had their leaves cancelled and must remain at headquarters to monitor the evolving situation.
This proactive move underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding fishermen’s lives and minimising risks during adverse weather conditions.
