1,500 Baliyatra Plots Allotted, Special Auction for Remaining 300 on November 10
Preparations for the upcoming Baliyatra have entered a crucial phase, with nearly 1,500 commercial plots already allotted to traders and exhibitors.
Authorities have announced a special auction on November 10 to allocate the remaining 300 plots at the fairgrounds.
Officials stated that the majority of commercial spaces have been successfully allotted through the registration and auction process, reflecting strong interest among traders eager to participate in Odisha’s largest open-air trade fair.
To ensure maximum utilisation of available space, the administration has planned a fresh registration drive on November 11 and 12 if plots remain vacant after the special auction.
A subsequent auction is scheduled for November 13 to complete the allotment process.
Meanwhile, the district administration has extended the deadline for submission of tenders for advertisement hoardings at the Baliyatra grounds until noon on November 9.
The tender documents will be opened later the same day.
Despite significant progress in plot allotment, concerns have emerged regarding the pace of infrastructure development at the venue.
Reports indicate that visible groundwork remains limited even after the event management agency received the work order several days ago.
Basic structures and installations are yet to be completed, while only a few amusement rides have reportedly reached the site.
The slow progress has raised questions about preparedness ahead of the festival, which attracts lakhs of visitors every year and serves as a celebration of Odisha’s rich maritime heritage.
The eight-day Baliyatra festival is scheduled to be held from November 24 to December 1, bringing together traders, artisans, cultural performers, and visitors from across the state and beyond.
