Kotia Poll Row: Jeypore MLA Seeks CBI Probe into Alleged Electoral Malpractice

Jeypore: A political controversy has erupted over alleged electoral irregularities in the disputed Kotia region of Odisha, with Tara Prasad Bahinipati, the Congress MLA from Jeypore, demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the matter.

According to reports, the legislator has raised serious concerns about the conduct of elections in the border area and alleged large-scale electoral malpractice.

Speaking on the issue, Tara Prasad Bahinipati alleged that individuals from neighbouring Andhra Pradesh were brought into the Kotia region to cast votes illegally, compromising the integrity of the electoral process.

He claimed that the alleged infiltration affected the fairness and transparency of voting in several villages under the Kotia panchayat.

The MLA further alleged that irregularities were so severe that even a contesting candidate reportedly faced difficulties in exercising their voting rights.

Describing the incident as a serious threat to democratic norms, he called for an impartial and comprehensive investigation by the CBI to uncover the truth behind the allegations.

The Kotia region, comprising 21 villages along the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh border, has long remained a contentious area with competing administrative claims from both states.

Electoral activities in the region have often attracted public and political attention due to its sensitive geographical and administrative status.

Demanding accountability, Tara Prasad Bahinipati urged election authorities and law enforcement agencies to take strict action against anyone found involved in voter impersonation, illegal voting, or other forms of electoral misconduct.

He emphasised the need to safeguard democratic values and ensure free and fair elections in the region.

The demand for a CBI probe is expected to intensify the political debate surrounding electoral governance in Kotia, with stakeholders likely to seek greater scrutiny of the election process in the disputed border villages.
