Odisha Crime Rate Stable Despite Rise in Registered Cases: DGP Mishra
Odisha’s crime rate has remained stable over the past two years, according to Director General of Police (in‑charge) Vinaytosh Mishra.
Addressing concerns over rising case numbers, Mishra clarified that the increase stems from intensified enforcement drives rather than a deterioration in law and order.
He highlighted the success of road safety campaigns, particularly against drunk driving, which have reduced accidents and fatalities.
Similarly, the state’s “Nasha Mukt” initiative has led to a surge in detected cases of substance abuse, with year‑on‑year increases of 20–25 per cent.
Police action against illegal sand mining has resulted in nearly 700 cases registered in Baleshwar district alone over two years.
Additionally, 54 cases under the Arms Act were recorded this year as part of targeted enforcement.
Mishra emphasised that stronger policing naturally raises case numbers but does not reflect worsening crime trends.
The Odisha Police, he said, remains committed to safeguarding public safety and maintaining law and order.
